Filled Up and Overflowing.....

I"m baaaack! I have missed a week of blogging...My brain has hatched several new ideas....Gone through the photos of our vacation....and I have had my entire mind consumed with my new painting (yes, Lori you hit the nail on the head)
To clean up some old issues I received the Brilliante Weblog Award one more time....and I will use fellow blogger David Lobenbergs' style of delivering this award. I am suppose to pass this award onto 5 other blogs that I highly admire (and I know that this award is suppose to circulate), but I humbly submit my "Fav. Links" on the right...more than 5 for sure, but they are all fantastic, and I just can't bring myself to edit. Sorry. Straight from the horses mouth!
The painting I started three days ago took a day of thought to paint it in my head first. When I had the image secured in my head I sketched it out on a 50x40 canvas. THE biggest canvas ever, to date, that I have painted on! The painting is from a photo Max took of me around my 60th birthday and it turned out so well I just had to paint it. It is not for sale unless, of course, you have around $30,000....lol!
In the first picture is the sketch and a wash of transparent oxide red with a touch of ultramarine blue to cool it down some. I work from dark to light blocking in the shadows first then the middle values. Highlights are wiped out of the paint with thinner. The next image is the work I did on the second day....mostly the bedclothes and trying to keep the shapes simple and the shadows thin. The third day I started the body and added more washes to the background. Worked on the sheets a little more and just about finished Okra Winfrey one of our cats.
This is a quick blog....there should be some new slide shows on here also.
Back to painting,
Theresa

A beautiful painting. I love the
feeling and know the way the cats
pile on the bed (we don't let the
dog on but she's right there too) the moment we let them.
I like the implied intimacy. The love story that's behind the image.Remember
I'm from Canada -- it's never warm
enough to actually sleep this way.

Wonderful work. Glad to have you back.

Barbara

Well this ought to multiply your subscribers lol I loved the composition as soon as I saw it. Love white sheet paintings as well. Ok is this where I show Max sympathy that he has this gauntlet to go through every night to get to you or get some sleep? lol You've been busy my dear!

I found you through David Lobenbergs' blog and have to shout out at this painting. It's so beautiful, and telling and joyful.
When I've viewed your finished work before this WIP demonstration, I wondered about the process.
Thank you for showing how you got from that bang on undertone sketch, which is really where it all starts, to the finished piece.

(PS- it's very familiar to me- I turned 60 this year, and we have two cats and two dogs- that sleep in the bed at intervals! )

You might hope no one offers 30 grand- then you'd have to part with this one.

Barbara..thank you are always the first to reply! I knew you would like it although I was a bit nervous to put it up. Always good to hear from you!

Thank you Erika...but I don't think it will multiply the viewers...or at least I hope it doesn't by one item alone. I too fell in love with composition immediately...I loved the way everything flows together in a gentle s form. We have since remedied the gauntlet!! The dogs now sleep on pillows on the floor....the cats still wander about and take turns as to who is sleeping where. I am always happy when a painting sings..this one does to me! I am not quite finished though maybe another day or two.

Hello and thank you Bonnie!! I am so glad you stopped buy and that you share the same feeling for this painting. I am not quite done yet. I have some work on the dogs...very little. I need to finish the hands and the cup of coffee. Maybe another day or two. I am a firm believer that design is key in a painting....and this was an excellent example! Glad to meet you Bonnie!

Just gorgeous. I love the form of the figures, the way they sink into the bed with such contentment.

I thought I commented on this painting last night, but today I realized I did not... I really like this painting, the point of view, how you capture the light and atmosphere. Being an animal person, I also love it how you are surrounded by your lovely pets as well! Great painting!

YOU DID THIS IN 3 DAYS!!!!! I obviously have to start working harder. Beautiful painting, every inch of it. Love the warm glow, makes me just want to hop on the bed and make myself comfy. The sheets are a wonderful maze and I love the way your dog is staring out at me but not threatened, just inviting me in.

Don't hate me. I like your start the best, and then your middle where you white in the sheets. In fact, your start is inspiring me to do some "unfinished" portraits.

Theresa Rankin said...

You know what David?? I agree...I think the start is the best. I always get carried away with paint. I don't hate anyone that has good advice or wise opinions..:)

This is better - now I can put up smart aleck comments. Your comment of several days ago ended up in my spam. I don't understand how as it was clearly Pulitzer material.

Lol! Thank you and your quick wit is always welcome here!

I re-read this post and must say you look stunning for any age but 60 is hard to believe. What did you do last night, Theresa? "Oh, you know, the usual, layed in bed nude, reading a book with my dogs."

Theresa Rankin said...

LOL! I laid around in bed naked and watched a movie this time. Thank you Onpainting for your great comment...I guess I am just lucky but also know how to put the covers in the appropriate places if you would like to see the original photo I painted from follow the link over to Redbubble....

I looked at the photo and am amazed at your beauty. I had felt you may have enhanced yourself in the painting. Now I feel you did not do yourself full justice.

The photo is a work of art in itself. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, Onpainting...I am honored by your comments!

Theresa - did those dogs eat your brushes and your laptop? 'cause we can send you more brushes.

Theresa Rankin said...

Hey onpainting!! I just got back from Arizona...I have been gone a week or so. There are more posts after this one...but none since I got back this afternoon! Thanks for the offer on the brushes..if the economy does not settle down I may take you up on that...:) The dogs have more of a taste for shoes than laptops!

What the devil are you doing?

You and the dogs need to get out of bed and produce some more paintings for me to look at. I can't read, I need pictures!

http://www.onpainting.wordpress.com said...

Yoo hoo - do you have an inkling of an idea for a painting that we might glance at? I know you are a very good painter and I don't think it is right for you not to share.

I think you should change the title:

Are you really still alive? Give us a single brushstroge to give us hope.
